U.S. Fiscal Cliff Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

U.S. Monetary Cliff - Essay Example The essential snag towards a more noteworthy comprehension between the two ideological groups concerning severity, spending, and the national obligation is with respect to how the circumstance ought to be taken care of. On the one side the Democratic Party as a rule if significantly more monetarily liberal than the Republican Party and as such in many cases has barely any hesitations in running up high shortfalls. Be that as it may, the Republican Party itself under the Bush years added to the national obligation by a figure of more than 4 trillion dollars. Such a total for the time was an unbelievable one. Helped by almost a time of contention and two wars, the Republican Party lost any trustworthiness that they had once in the past held concerning being the gathering of financial obligation. In any case, with respect to the individual places that the political range holds, there can be supposed to be two. The Democratic Party accepts that the most ideal approach to locate a sensibl e answer for such monetary troubles spins around raising expenses (explicitly on the upper white collar class and wealthiest residents). Such a methodology has merits; notwithstanding, talking monetarily, it likewise serves to punish those activity makers that most straightforwardly impact the degree of development and recuperation that the country would understanding if such a deadweight misfortune were not experienced. Also, those that help the substitute view to the one recorded above case that all spending deficiencies must be cured by depending on grimness as well as spending slices to accomplish the ideal outcome.

Immanuel Kant Essay

A multi year old undergrad and dependent speculator was pulled over for inconsistent driving on the Long Island Expressway. He pulled out a toy gun and pointed it at the official, he was then shot and slaughtered. Another episode including a multi year old disease tolerant had a similar completion in new Jersey. He strolled into a Pizza Shop and pointed a weapon at the officials inside eating. Specialists accept that they power the cops to murder them as a type of self destruction. Self destruction is hard to submit and compelling an official to slaughter you removes the weight of finishing the undertaking. Some insurance agencies don’t spread self destruction and religions deny it so it is away of removing the blame and disgrace from normal self destruction. 10% of lethal police shootings are welcomed on by individuals trying to bite the dust. - Evaluate the ethical admissibility of â€Å"suicide by cop† - To what degree is a cop ethically committed to survey whether an individual the person shoots really needs to be murdered? Ideals Ethics Aristotle’s hypothesis of good uprightness classifies the quest for bliss as a procedure that is accomplished by seeking after genuine merchandise in an ethically right manner. It is a mean between two indecencies (overabundance and deformity). Our activities are deliberate and the result of decision. In these cases they appear to have self fancy deformities. They are supporting behavior (self destruction) and putting forth pardons trying to legitimize their ethically impermissible actions(carried out by cops versus self). An individual is abandoning their quest for satisfaction and there for, from the casualties point of view nothing is ethically passable about their activities. The official doesn’t have the opportunity to evaluate the thought processes of suspects that pull guns on them. They need to settle on a brisk choice without a moment's notice. Murder or be slaughtered. Their own quest for bliss and life is ensured. Formalizism Emmanuel Kant created formalizes hypothesis. It centers around completing your obligations without considering the outcomes. Downright and Practical basic are the two primary parts. Unmitigated basic is the possibility that the ethical commitment is substantial just in the event that it applies generally to everything. Reasonable basic expresses that an individual should regard mankind as an end and not as a mean. At the point when you apply this to self destruction by cop it is never option to go point a weapon at somebody with the goal for them to murder you. The official applies those circumstances generally to everybody however. You are met with a similar sort of power that you bring. Their primary goal is securing themselves. Utilitarianism John Mill’s hypothesis of utility extended from the perspective of inspirations of delight and torment. The integrity of a demonstration is dictated by the results of the demonstration and how much bliss is advanced. Utilizing this hypothesis the casualty is as yet not ethically right with their decision of self destruction by cop however the joy of death may exceed the agony of life. They don’t advance any bliss by getting themselves slaughtered. Their friends and family all get injured. From the officials eyes they have a furnished individual pointing a firearm at them and they don’t have the opportunity to gauge the advantages and disadvantages they can just respond. They aren’t going to be upbeat about executing somebody they still wouldn’t be glad on the off chance that they did stop and think and wound up shot themselves. Self destruction is a narrow minded act and considerably increasingly egotistical when you power another person to accomplish your messy work. Nobody needs to end an actual existence yet a great many people don’t need to lose theirs either. I don't accept that officials ought to be ethically committed to evaluate climate an individual is disregard or simply needs incredible. It is too perilous to even think about trying and play therapist is the thing that might mean a crucial circumstance for a cop. My progression father has a reviewing organization and hit a man on a cruiser that was passing on of malignant growth. He went out that day and advised his family he was going to kill himself I surmise his dump truck appeared as though the best alternative in finishing his crucial he drove head on directly into him. Despite the fact that the man needed to kick the bucket my progression father never needed to murder somebody and it is an entirely passionate point. The narrow-mindedness that it takes to end your life at somebody else’s cost is past me and something I truly don’t comprehend.

Build Your MBA Profile Like Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie is known worldwide as both a  glamorous movie star and an advocate of several worthwhile humanitarian causes. Even more impressive than this amazing image is how she has managed to accomplish so much while simultaneously  battling with  substance addictions, social controversies, and failed relationships. By building your MBA profile like Angelina has built her career, you can also overcome any potentially negative components of your application. From â€Å"Wild Child† to â€Å"World’s Most Admired Woman† Growing up an unpopular schoolgirl and then becoming an unsuccessful model struggling with an eating disorder, drug addiction, depression, and flops after flops, Angelina’s rise to success was not as easy as one might assume. Early in life, she made the news more often for the wrong reasons than she did for any positive accomplishments. The turning point, she says, was adopting her son, Maddox   his entry into her life  made her commit to  ending  her self-destructive ways. Around this same time, the filming of her blockbuster hit â€Å"Lara Croft: Tomb Raider† in Cambodia opened her eyes to the worldwide humanitarian crisis, leading to her involvement as a United Nations ambassador. From her image as a wild child, to being named the  World’s Most Admired Woman in 2015  by YouGov, Angelina Jolie has ably managed her public image to benefit her career and make an impact on worthwhile causes. Lesson for MBA applicants: Just as early missteps did not define Angelina  Ã‚  and have even proved to make  her story interesting MBA applicants can build their profiles even with previous failures or mistakes. Identifying turning points and key events that allowed you  to mature and  fulfill your   potential will allow  the  Admissions Committee  to better understand and relate to your early vulnerability, redemption, and success. Images of Refugee Camp Visits Striking images of Angelina’s well-documented visits to refugee camps in Kenya, Lebanon, and all over the world, are also helpful in presenting her awareness of, and commitment to, her cause in a way that is both credible and powerful, such that her reputation as a humanitarian is able to drown  out accusations that she is may be a home-wrecker. (Apologies to Jennifer Aniston’s fans, if any are still reading up to this point!) Lesson for MBA applicants: Sharing stories complete with vivid images that will favorably surprise the Admissions Committee  or counteract negative perceptions or  stereotypes about your background will be  very useful for your MBA essays and your overall profile. For instance, private equity analysts could be seen as mainly doing desktop research and not getting exposed to the outside world. Thus, an applicant of this background would do well to richly relate the experience of inspecting the mines or interacting with people in the factories.  In contrast, an applicant from a very poor country would do well to highlight global leadership experiences and personal exposure across different nations  to  help assure the Admissions Committee that he or she will do well in a diverse top-tier  MBA program. Building a well-rounded profile like Angelina Jolie will be essential  to gaining admission to a top-tier business school;  showing that you are someone who can â€Å"hit the ground running† wherever you go is the type of candidate  MBA programs are truly looking for. Overview of Partial Classes in Visual Basic .NET

Partial Classes are a feature of VB.NET that is used almost everywhere, but theres not much written about it. This might be because there are not a lot of obvious developer applications for it yet. The primary use is in the way ASP.NET and VB.NET solutions are created in Visual Studio where its one of those features that is normally hidden. A partial class is simply a class definition that is split into more than one physical file. Partial classes dont make a difference to the compiler because all the files that make up a class are simply merged into a single entity for the compiler. Since the classes are just merged together and compiled, you cant mix languages. That is, you cant have one partial class in C# and another in VB. You cant span assemblies with partial classes either. They all have to be in the same assembly. This is used a lot by Visual Studio itself, especially in web pages where it is a key concept in code behind files. Well see how this works in a Visual Studio, but understanding what changed in Visual Studio 2005 when it was introduced is a good starting point. In Visual Studio 2003, the hidden code for a Windows application was all in a section called a Region marked Windows Form Designer generated code. But it was still all there in the same file and it was easy to view, and change, the code in the Region. All of the code is available to your application in .NET. But since some of it is code that you should almost never mess with, it was kept in that hidden Region. (Regions can still be used for your own code, but Visual Studio doesnt use them anymore.) In Visual Studio 2005 (Framework 2.0), Microsoft did approximately the same thing, but they hid the code in a different place: a partial class in a separate file. You can see this at the bottom of the illustration below: --------Click Here to display the illustrationClick the Back button on your browser to return-------- One of the syntax differences between Visual Basic and C# right now is that C# requires that all partial classes be qualified with the keyword Partial but VB does not. Your main form in VB.NET doesnt have any special qualifiers. But the default class statement for an empty Windows application looks like this using C#: public partial class Form1 : Form Microsofts design choices on things like this are interesting. When Paul Vick, Microsofts VB designer, wrote about this design choice in his blog Panopticon Central, the debate about it in the comments went on for pages and pages. Lets see how all this works with real code on the next page. On the previous page, the concept of partial classes was explained. We convert a single class into two partial classes on this page. Heres an example class with one method and one property in a VB.NET project Public Class CombinedClass   Ã‚  Ã‚  Private m_Property1 As String   Ã‚  Ã‚  Public Sub New(ByVal Value As String)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  m_Property1 Value   Ã‚  Ã‚  End Sub   Ã‚  Ã‚  Public Sub Method1()   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  MessageBox.Show(m_Property1)   Ã‚  Ã‚  End Sub   Ã‚  Ã‚  Property Property1() As String   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Get   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Return m_Property1   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  End Get   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Set(ByVal value As String)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  m_Property1 value   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  End Set   Ã‚  Ã‚  End Property End Class This class can be called (for example, in the Click event code for a Button object) with the code: Dim ClassInstance As New _   Ã‚  Ã‚  CombinedClass(About Visual Basic Partial Classes) ClassInstance.Method1() We can separate the properties and methods of the class into different physical files by adding two new class files to the project. Name the first physical file Partial.methods.vb and name the second one Partial.properties.vb. The physical file names have to be different but the partial class names will be the same so Visual Basic can merge them when the code is compiled. Its not a syntax requirement, but most programmers are following the example in Visual Studio of using dotted names for these classes. For example, Visual Studio uses the default name Form1.Designer.vb for the partial class for a Windows form. Remember to add the Partial keyword for each class and change the internal class name (not the file name) to the same name. I used the internal class name: PartialClass. The illustration below shows all of the code for the example and the code in action. --------Click Here to display the illustrationClick the Back button on your browser to return-------- Visual Studio hides partial classes such as Form1.Designer.vb. On the next page, we learn how to do that with the partial classes we just created. The previous pages explain the concept of partial classes and show how to code them. But Microsoft uses one more trick with the partial classes generated by Visual Studio. One of the reasons for using them is to separate application logic from UI (user interface) code. In a large project, these two types of code might even be created by different teams. If theyre in different files, they can be created and updated with a lot more flexibility. But Microsoft goes one more step and hides the partial code in Solution Explorer as well. Suppose we wanted to hide the methods and properties partial classes in this project? Theres a way, but its not obvious and Microsoft doesnt tell you how. One of the reasons you dont see the use of partial classes recommended by Microsoft is that its not really supported very well in Visual Studio yet. To hide the Partial.methods.vb and Partial.properties.vb classes that we just created, for example, requires a change in the vbproj file. This is an XML file that isnt even displayed in Solution Explorer. You can find it with Windows Explorer along with your other files. A vbproj file is shown in the illustration below. --------Click Here to display the illustrationClick the Back button on your browser to return-------- The way were going to do this is to add a root class that is completely empty (only the Class header and End Class statement are left) and make both of our partial classes dependent on it. So add another class named PartialClassRoot.vb and again change the internal name to PartialClass to match the first two. This time, I have not used the Partial keyword just to match the way Visual Studio does it. Heres where a little knowledge of XML will come in very handy. Since this file will have to be updated manually, you have to get the XML syntax right. You can edit the file in any ASCII text editor - Notepad works just fine - or in an XML editor. It turns out that you have a great one in Visual Studio and thats what is shown in the illustration below. But you cant edit the vbproj file at the same time that youre editing the project its in. So close the project and open only the vbproj file. You should see the file displayed in the edit window as shown in the illustration below. (Note the Compile elements for each class. DependentUpon sub-elements must be added exactly as shown in the illustration below. This illustration was created in VB 2005 but it has been tested in VB 2008 as well.) --------Click Here to display the illustrationClick the Back button on your browser to return-------- For many of us, its probably enough to know that partial classes are there, just so we know what they are when were trying to track down a bug in the future. For large and complex systems development, they could be a small miracle because they can help organize code in ways that would have been impossible before. (You can also have partial structures and partial interfaces!) But some people have concluded that Microsoft invented them just for internal reasons - to make their code generation work better. Author Paul Kimmel even went so far as to suggest that Microsoft actually created partial classes to lower their costs by making it easier to outsource development work around the world. Maybe. Its the kind of thing they might do.

What Type Of Listener Am I - 1533 Words

What type of listener am I? There are four different types of listening the first is pretend listening where we are ignoring another person. Then we have the selective hearing is where we tune in and out of the conversation, we only hear some parts of the conversation. That moment where we are listening to someone and essentially hear everything they are saying we are being attentive listeners. When we are in class listening to our professor speak that is when we should be empathetic listeners all the time. It is hard to pin point what listener you are because everyone is guilty being every type of these listeners. Stereotypes about Homelessness in America in Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner Essay Stereotypes about Homelessness in America in Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner Lars Eighners short essay, Dumpster Diving, reveals the stereotypes about homelessness in America. In order to confirm these known stereotypes about American culture, Eighner includes autobiographical accounts of the economically inferior class, as well as revealing his elitist rules that governs the life of a homeless person. According to Eighner, homeless people fall into the following categories, can scroungers, Dumpster divers, and scavengers. (Eighner, 1993). In addition, Eighners blatant demonstration of his superiority to the people he scavenges from reveals his true character of snobbery. Instead, he preferred to be called a scavenger because of its frankness in the term. (Eighner, 1993). Furthermore, Eighner, explains that there are rules to abide by when successfully scavenging through dumpsters, using the senses†¦knowing the dumpsters of a given area†¦. and Why was this discarded? It is the explanation of the three guidelines Eighner asserts to be superior to can scroungers (Homeless people who rummage through the dumpsters for money). The author further elaborates his snobbishness by revealing that he has tried the heinous lifestyle of can scroungers, and deduced that only a few dollars could be obtained. Moreover, Eighner states, one can extract the necessities of life from the dumpsters directly with far less effort than would be required to accumulate the equivalent of cans. (Eighner, 1993). The author stereoty. .ghner, 1993). It is the authors belief that consumers are aware of their consumption, as well as realize how wasteful they are with food in general For the students who do not fit into Eighners wasteful category, he presents a grouping of frugal consumers who, carefully wrap up even the smallest leftovers and shove it into the back of the refrigerator for six months or so before discarding it (Eighner, 1993). Through the essay, Dumpster Diving, Eighner impresses his superiority by illustrating disinterested people and their lack to complete certain tasks the author is skillful at. Free Essays on The Minister’s Black Veil

The Minister’s Black Veil In Nathaniel Hawthorne’s â€Å"The Minister’s Black Veil†, the author chooses to mask the character of the minister with the black veil to construct an allegory that would compare sin concocted by imagination with unrecognized sin of one’s self. The story â€Å"The Minister’s Black Veil† is symbolic of the hidden sins that we hide and separate ourselves from the ones we love most. In wearing the veil, Hooper presents the isolation that everybody experiences when chained down by own sins. He has realized that everybody symbolically can be found in the shadow of his or her own veil. By Hooper, wearing this shroud across his face is only showing the dark side of people and the truth of human existence and nature. With the story being set in the Puritan period of the settlement of New England, as nearly all of Hawthorne’s stories are, the reader can logically infer a certain set of value judgments. For instance, these people, being very sincere about their religion, are likely to see anything out of the ordinary, such as a black-veiled minister, as a serious issue that undermines their faith. On the surface, the first sight of the veil not only confuses the congregation, but scares them as well. This man is supposed to be their most direct mode of communication with God, and to see him in what they perceive to be quite a bizarre condition must make them feel that their religious lives may be in danger. Yet another character trait held by this community is its inability to cope with even the slightest bit of change. Something as trivial as a man covering his face with black crape paper literally whips this community into a frenzy. â€Å"I don’t like it† (p.102), cried the old woman, â€Å"Our parson has gone mad† (p.102), cried Goodman Gary. Free Essays on The Minister’s Black Veil Free Essays on The Minister’s Black Veil The Minister’s Black Veil In Nathaniel Hawthorne’s â€Å"The Minister’s Black Veil†, the author chooses to mask the character of the minister with the black veil to construct an allegory that would compare sin concocted by imagination with unrecognized sin of one’s self. A pizzeria business plan

A pizzeria business plan Executive Summary This is a business plan for a Pizzeria based on producing a differentiated product in a premium location. The objective is to differentiate the operation from any other restaurant operation based on the concept of superior quality food based on the exclusive use of premium natural ingredients for every element of the product delivered from a conventional cheese and tomato pizza to the unique menu items. At the same time the operation is such that its environmental footprint is minimized and it operates in a manner that maximizes social responsibility in every facet of its operation. Pricing relative to other Pizzerias will be premium, but compared to most of the restaurants in the same quality bracket very competitive. The longer-term plan will involve additional Sofian Eat restaurants on either an owned or franchised basis or a combination of the two. This initial plan is for the pilot operation, which will serve as a model for future openings of Sofian Eat. Essen tials to success The planned operation is a restaurant. The underlying keys to successful restaurant operation are good food served in a clean and pleasant atmosphere. These are a ‘given’ in any successful restaurant, but in themselves are not sufficient to create any great success. â€Å"Positioning is an underleveraged restaurant marketing component. Positioning is the place you hold in the customers or prospects mind relative to the competition (the cheaper choice, the higher quality choice, et cetera). Effective positioning involves incorporation of your Unique Selling Proposition (U.S.P.).†[1] (Quantified Marketing Group, 2010) In Sofian Eat success will depend on creating a unique â€Å"product† based on the publics concern for the environment and the wholesomeness of food. This will be incorporated into a unique ambiance and menu that will provide a dining experience that hopefully customers will enjoy and wish to repeat. An important element in the overall concept is that because Sofian Eats is dedicated to concepts concerning the environment and natural food, which the client is aware of and approve, they will have an underlying â€Å"good feeling† about what they are doing when they enjoy a meal at Sofian Eats. In Principles of Marketing Dr. Philip Kotler uses the fast food industry as an example of marketing being used to sell. â€Å"Shoddy, harmful or unsafe products†, and bemoans the fact that this American approach to restaurant marketing is catching on in Europe.[2] The marketing approach used in this project is unashamedly copied from another American Company, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream that takes a totally opposite approach.[3] While not as successful as McDonald’s, Ben & Jerry’s built a business from a single tiny location to a major company and the founders finally sold the company to Unilever in 2000. 1.0 Terms of Reference 1.1 To 1.2 From These three items are not ordinarily a par t of a business plan, and I am not totally clear on what is wanted here. Clearly, I cannot fill in â€Å"to and from†. I suspect that the three items involves only a few words with the possible exception of â€Å"terms of reference†. I will gladly write something for you about this as a revision if you can tell me what it is supposed to do. Thanks. Your writer

The Case of Misbehaving Data or the Proverbial Plan B Essay

The Case of Misbehaving Data or the Proverbial Plan B - Essay Example Furthermore, while parametric tests most likely require numerical scores, responses in a nonparametric test are usually categorized. It should then be noted that putting responses under these classifications entail that these data involve measurement on nominal or ordinal scales and thus, cannot produce numerical values that can be used to calculate means and variances. This would mean that data for a number of nonparametric tests are simply frequencies. An example of a nonparametric test is the Mann-Whitney test which is used for testing differences between means when there are two conditions and different subjects have been used in each condition. For example, an experiment may be carried out to investigate the depressant effects of certain recreational drugs (Leech, Barett, & Morgan, 2005). Twenty clubbers are tested with 10 clubbers given an ecstasy tablet to take on a Saturday night while 10 are allowed only to drink alcohol. Then, their levels of depression are measured. In using SPSS to analyze the given data, it should be noted that the data must be inputed using a coding variable. Thus, the data editor will have three columns of data where the first column is the coding variable with two codes (for example, 1 = ecstasy and 2 = alcohol). The second column will contain values of the dependent variable while the third column will contain values of the independent variable. An exploratory analysis in SPSS will reveal that the data is not normally distributed, indicating that a nonparametric test should be used. To run the analysis, the main dialog box should be accessed by using Analyze, followed by Nonparametric Tests, followed by 2 Independent Samples. The dependent and independent variables should then be placed in their corresponding boxes and the coding variable should be placed in the box labeled â€Å"Grouping variable.† the corresponding numeric codes should then be inputed and after clicking OK, SPSS

Occupational Stress Essay -- Health, Diseases, Anxiety Disorders

Does occupational stress affect mental health and well being? This is one of the most important questions in human wellbeing. So far, medical research indicates that occupational stress is a major problem for our mental well being. Research has not only proven that occupational stress harms are mental wellbeing but our physical wellbeing also. In the research done by Articlebase and published by Paul Hata author of â€Å"The Effect of Stress on Mental Health† (2008), he explains that a person exposed to long-term, unrelenting severe stress is particularly susceptible to experiencing a mental breakdown. Mr. Paul Hata explains how stress can be defined as the condition or the situations that disturb the normal functioning of physical and mental health of an individual. In this paper we will discuss how occupational stress can lead to major mental health issues. Further research indicates how extreme stress conditions are harmful to human health but a moderate amount of stress is acceptable (as cited in Articlebase, 2008). Paul Hata (2008) writes about how extreme stress can increase blood pressure and how the body releases a stress hormone in the blood. This hormone is used to reduce the effects of stress and symptoms of anxiety in the body. When a person is under severe stress this condition fails to respond, and the hormones necessary to calm us remain unreleased in the blood stream for a prolonged period of time. Stress has a number of bad effects on the body, for example: tense muscles, non focused anxiety, dizziness, rapid heartbeat. The state of accumulated stress can increase the risk of both acute and chronic mental illness like a nervous breakdown and also weaken the immune system of the body (Articlebase, 2008). Mr... ... deadlines etc. I will try to leave early for work in the morning. This will make me look good in the eyes of management and will also help me by giving me a sense of peace and calm by not having to rush into work late. I will try and take at least one 15 minute break during the day and take a walk outside and get fresh air. I will try and not have a defensive personality. I will listen carefully and not jump into any conclusions. I will learn to speak professionally and will not let my emotions get the best of me. I will learn to count to 10 or 20, breathe and think before I speak to my superiors. I will be pleasant and will respect all my colleges and my management team. I will learn to be a team player; by this I mean helping out whenever I can and keeping an open communication at all times (Health Guide, 2009).

Elias and Simoun as Revolutionary Characters

The Filipino’s national hero, Jose Rizal, had written two famous novels which are the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. The compelling part of these novels compared to the regular novels we have nowadays is all the symbols that depicted the Philippines’ society in Rizal’s time. One of the symbols that he used is his characters. Each character represented a real person in society and through these it can be analyzed if that character represented a social cancer in the society. Most of the characters in the novels did represent the sickness that was happening in the society. An example of this is Dona Victorina who was a fat Filipina who always wore jewels and married a Spanish man. She represents the Filipinos who aspire to become a Spaniard to leave behind any trace of Filipino in them and then boasts to everyone about her by marrying a Spanish man. There are many characters that are like this which are people with low esteem and then falling to the traps of the Spaniards. Of course, not all the people are like this. There are those who love the Philippines and their nationality that they fight for this. Rizal has represented these people in the characters of Ibarra, Elias, Simoun and Basilio. However, between these characters, they also represented two types of people. Elias and Simoun are reflections of the revolutionists that wanted radical change while Ibarra and Basilio represented the reformists. It was a common misconception that Rizal represented himself as one of these characters but when analyzed carefully, these characters represented his views to the revolution and the reformation. He keeps arguing the pros and cons of each side and then in the end, we would know which one he chose is better. Elias and Simoun were the two great revolutionists in Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo respectively. They have a lot of similarities but also many differences. Both of them suffered greatly from the oppressions of the Spaniards which is the reason why they have become revolutionists and wanted independence of the country. In Elias’ case, he was a poor lowly man who was not able to have a good education but through hardships, his mind was sharpened and he saw the social injustices around him especially the injustice experienced by his family. His family were killed by the Spaniards but he did not seek revenge and vengeance. He did not want to be ill driven by revenge as his purpose but he still believed that violence was the only way to which the Philippines will have independence. He was a very optimistic person who trusts in Ibarra, God, government, in everything except the civil guards and the friars. He is a man who hates and persecutes the wicked. He saves those who are being persecuted and vindicates the vicious, lazy Filipinos in the novel. Rizal has made Elias a very compelling character of revolutionists but in the end he changes the views of Elias. Elias who at first was a strong believer of the revolution and argued that armed struggle will be the only means to set the Philippines free changed his mind in the end that the revolution will be a failure and so many Filipinos will just lose their lives. This was a much unexpected change of events in the novel because a very strong-willed person suddenly changes his views about the revolution. It is later realized that a missing chapter about Salome and Elias was the reason why this has happened. In the end, the strong revolutionist became weak but he still believed in Ibarra and so he sacrificed himself so that he can live with a dream that Ibarra would be the turning key to the Philippines’ independence. Elias believed that there will be no light or education if there is no liberty. Crisostomo Ibarra had the opposite view from Elias', Ibarra believed that there will be no liberty if there is no light. On the other hand, Simoun was also a character who became a victim of the colonial system. His father was killed by the friars and his sweetheart Maria Clara would leave him to become a sister in the convent because of a dark secret. Unlike Elias, Simoun was driven with revenge against the Spaniards who have taken Maria Clara away from him. He became a radical revolutionist so that he will take Maria Clara from her captors. Simoun’s purpose of revolting was a selfish and personal reason which will become one of the reasons why he will fail as explained by the priest in the end. Simoun was still a very rich man like Ibarra so he was very influential to the people. He was also very active as a revolutionist wherein he dared kill all the high friars and military officials in his house. However, this plan failed because Basilio hindered this from happening. Simoun still believed that the Filipinos need to have good education to be worthy for having independence. He believes that to become a nation, both the politics and education need to be changed. Still, like Elias, Rizal also killed by killing himself with poison because he has lost all hope that he would ever succeed. The difference from Elias and Simoun's revolution is the objective and condition into which the revolution was made. For Elias, the revolution should not have any personal objective however Simoun's participation in the revolution was driven by the personal objective of rescuing Maria Clara. The failure of Simoun in saving Maria Clara also contradicts the condition of Elias for a revolution which is careful planning. The similiraty lies on the manner of how the revolution should be executed which is through bloodshed and war. Through these two characters, it can be seen that there are great revolutionists in the society. They have also argued their sides well. However, Rizal was not in favour for the revolution and that is why he had killed them in his novels which are to say that he was trying to tell the revolutionists of his time that the revolution will become a lost cause because this would only drive them mad and a lot of people would be killed.

The Marvel Of The Movie Watchmen - 1316 Words

Subsequently, while most superhero plots involve an element of fantasy, the characters in Moore’s graphic novel are, for the most part, embedded into pessimistic version of reality with only lifelike traits. Obviously, the one glaring exception in Watchmen is Doctor Manhattan, who is transformed into a being capable of a number of otherworldly abilities. However, the other five heroes in the story are regular humans who take the initiative to aid in the protection of society. This is unlike most superheroes in previous comics, who are often blessed with a divine power that allows them to conquer all evil. Additionally, referring to the society in which Moore’s heroes are immersed in, it is situated in a location known to its readers, with a certain twist. While Superman has his Metropolis and Batman has his Gotham City, the six costumed adventurers are based in New York City, or more accurately, a filthy parody of it. The universe in which Moore sets his story is the cl osest to reality, with a hyperbolic emphasis on the evil in society, in which superheroes have been set it. Hence, the problems presented to the superheroes are not something to be combatted with fantastical talents, but more nuanced with realistic obstacles without a clear solution. In Watchmen, the imminent threat of nuclear war is a state of affairs that would have been realistic for readers, particularly during the time period of the graphic novel’s release in 1987. From a financial analyst’s standpoint, Marvel would be the clear winner.
